Osmond Family Night

Story and photos by Beka Osmond

Our tradition in the Osmond family has been to have a family night with everyone together on the first Monday of the month. We started this tradition over a year ago now and we each take a turn of being in charge. Each month a different brother will set it all up. Each one makes the decisions of who makes the food, what the lesson will be about, who does a musical number, and what activity we do. We all meet at Mother and Father’s house, that’s Alan and Suzanne to you, and then learn of what will be taking place that night.

For this month’s family night we all had a delicious oriental dinner prepared by Suzanne, followed by a song from the 3rd Generation Osmonds (Suzannah, Sarah, and Sasha). It was then time for our youngest brother, Tyler, to give the lesson and activity.

Each month we take a chapter out of Gordon B. Hinckley’s book titled Way to Be. This month’s “Be” was called Be Still. It was all about taking the time to think and meditate on the deeper meanings of life. Take time to read. Love God’s creations all around you. Psalms 46:10 says “Be still, and know that I am God.” The lesson was followed by an activity made up by Tyler. It was an indoor scavenger hunt. We each had to answer about 10 questions of different things that were in the house. For example: How many keys are on the piano, or how many computers are in the house. How many stickers were on his money box, these were just a few. Whoever gets all the questions correct in the shortest amount of time wins a trophy.

It’s the Alan Osmond Family Night trophy, and you get to take it home for that month. After the activity was over, the little girls sang again with everyone and then we all just goof around, acting silly together. Then it’s ice cream for everyone, and then we say goodnight.

There’s nothing better than having a close family to spend time with. Family nights for us are a time to get to know each other better and to enjoy each other’s company for just a short moment. Each one of us get so busy in life, it’s nice to take time out to let each one know how much we care for them.
