Family Night Ideas

We have family game night at our house. It's on Friday night. And it actually begins Friday afternoon with the kids not having to do any homework when they get home from school!

When my husband gets home from work we order the usual, a pizza, and turn up the tunes (usually the oldies--of course this means Osmond music as well--the kids love it!) and then we play games all evening. It's pretty much any games -the kids choose!

We do not have a family night, but a Family Saturday once a month.

My father is #8 out of 9 children. Only 3 remain. One Saturday each month, my dad, his siblings and all children that would like to - are invited to attend a lunch at a different restaurant. We have gone from the eleborate to the local greasy spoon - but all have been very enjoyable, and gives us a chance to spend quality time with our Aunts, Uncles and cousins.

As adults, we live so far from each other that it would be impossible to have a family night. But when we were children, we didn't call it family night, but every so often we would get out the home movies, my father made, and there were plenty of them!

We popped popcorn and built a fire in the family room and laughed at the old movies of us when we were small. The atmosphere and the cute pictures of all of us seemed to bring us closer together. It's a memory that I have never forgotten.

We believe in keeping it simple. We record conference talks and talks off of BYU-TV and once a month we listen to one of the talks and discuss the message and have a treat.

We try to have a activities, some of our best are miniature golf, playing basketball at the park, walking the track, watching a funny old movie. Just escaping the phone, tv and computer is a treat!! We also enjoy playing games on Sunday as a family.
