A Family Night From The Past With The Alan Osmond Family
December, 2003

by Alan Osmond

"One of our family nights was on an anniversary of Suzanne's and mine. We decided to do something with our boys as we felt that was the best way to celebrate! They each had little backpacks they used for school and Suzanne and I each had one for emergency preparedness.

We took a little drive up into the canyon, as far as we could go. We got out and hiked up into a little spot and made camp. We didn't have a tent, but we took a tarp and tied it between some trees as it was starting to sprinkle with rain. We tested our our emergency preparedness kits and ate our Ready-to-Eat meals and drank water from our canteens. Then we lit a small fire and had a moment that made a strong impression on our young sons.

It gave Suzanne and me a chance to talk about how we met and that the most important thing we could do on our anniversary day was to spend it with our children. We threw rocks and sang songs and it was a very simple OsMonday, but our children still talk about it.

I think that's the key to OsMondays, is that you do something that doesn't cost a lot, but it comes from within. Just doing simple things can bring you together."
