Osmonday
Let’s Go For a Hike

Are you looking for a fun and adventurous activity for the whole family to enjoy, but without spending a lot of money? Mike and I had a wonderful time with our girls on our last family night together. Even though they are only 5, 4, and 3, they each love the outdoors and had a ball! We live close to a small mountain and have taken it for granted never climbing it. So we finally decided to climb. We grabbed the camera, our little dog, Buttercup, and clothed the girls in jeans, sweatshirts and good climbing shoes. Most important we brought along bottles of water.

We started our journey in good spirits, deciding from the start to take our time so that nobody would get overly tired. That’s key, especially if you have small children or older adults with you. Being a whole family event, you want to make sure everyone will enjoy it. It was interesting to see the view from the different elevations, too.

Along the way, we were able to point out the different footprints of animals, among other markings! We looked for lizards under the rocks, and the girls even picked out a rock for their collections at home. Mike and I took turns taking the lead and following up in the rear, constantly making sure the girls were between us. It’s important to always check to see that you’re not leaving anyone behind.

When we got to the very top, it was so rewarding to finally get there. It’s amazing to see the view from that high up. We took some time to point out familiar landmarks like our home, the fire station, and the school! That was the one the girls screamed about. They even pointed out a police car.

We took pictures of the whole event; first of the climbing, then of the view from the top, and the descent. Mike and I love to take pictures of our little family so that they’ll always remember the special moments in their lives.

So whether it’s mountain climbing, camping, fishing, or just going to the park, take time to be with your family. Enjoy the beautiful Spring weather together outdoors. Mondays are good days to do things together as a family but what counts the most is that you’re spending time together, sharing and laughing with each other.
