Memories of the Reception
Suzanne Pinegar
and Alan Osmond were married on July 16th, 1974 at The Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints Temple in Provo, Utah. Their wedding reception,
however, was not held until five weeks later because immediately following
the wedding ceremony the couple flew directly to Las Vegas. The Osmonds
were performing there in a three week engagement at the Tropicana Hotel.
From Las Vegas, Alan and Suzanne, along with the entire Osmond family, flew to England for two and half weeks to tape a television show. Before continuing on for a concert tour, the family returned to Utah for a few days to celebrate Alan and Suzanne's marriage at a reception held on August 21, in Spanish Fork.
The large wedding reception in honor of Alan and Suzanne was a huge event with over 4,000 guests attending! Friends and relatives from Spanish Fork and all over came to wish the newlyweds well. People waited an hour and a half in a line over four blocks long just to get into the reception hall!
Suzanne and Alan, along with their parents, grandparents, brothers, and sisters greeted people during the reception. In the receiving line, Alan stood tall and proud in his white tuxedo. Wayne, who served as best man, and Alan's and Suzanne's brothers were dressed in sharp contrast to Alan in the black tuxedos they wore. Suzanne was beautiful and gracious as she greeted friends and family wearing her floor-length lace-trimmed wedding gown. Suzanne's sister, Laurie, was the maid of honor. Laurie and bridesmaids, Robyn and Karen Pinegar, Mary Osmond, Paula S. Snow, Janet Halliday and Marie wore beautiful floor-length blue satin gowns.
The reception hall was beautifully decorated as a Grecian Garden, complete with magnificent pillars and colorful blue and avocado green draperies. Hidden spotlights accented the room helping to create an even more romantic mood. Tables were laden with every kind of fruit the season had to offer, an assortment of Danish pastries, and punch. The tables were decorated with blue table cloths and flower arrangements.
A four-tiered wedding cake stood four feet high and was elegantly trimmed with white and blue icing along with a flowing blue waterfall between the second and third tiers. Grecian pillars and ivory cupids added to the beauty of the masterpiece which rose to the ceiling with a crown of wedding bells and ribbon.
The wedding gifts were on display as was Suzanne's trousseau, which she had been building since high school. Her trousseau consisted of beautiful quilts, pillow cases, dinnerware, place settings and many more items she would share with Alan.
An orchestra played in the background during the reception. At one point Suzanne and Alan danced to the beautiful melody of "If," one of their favorite songs.
The evening was an elegant, beautiful event, with the Osmonds, the Pinegars,
and friends of both families celebrating the union of Suzanne and Alan.
